QBR CAMPER PRO-FILE

My Son Always Knew He Could Be A QB!
Broke 15-Year School Passing Record

"Although the 2008 season is long over, it will forever be remembered as one of Mojave High School’s best ever.

My son went to your California camp two years in a row and came away with so much confidence and knowledge. I wish we had known about the camp before he started high school. During Doug's freshman year he happened to have a coach who didn’t care about the players and was put in the line, at 95 pounds.

It was inevitable that my son would get injured as he had never played any type of football before high school, and he did. QBR Camp - Doug WilsonDoug broke both bones in his left forearm completely in half and ended up having two surgeries. One put in two plates and 11 screws in his arm; the other was to replace one of the plates that broke 30 days later.

This coach told my son that he put him in the line because he didn’t believe Doug could ever be a quarterback.

Well, the following year Doug attended your camp and was determined to become the best quarterback he could possibly be. He ended up as the starter his sophomore year and did a wonderful job. Doug attended your camp again the following year and was the back-up quarterback his junior year. He didn’t play much because the starting QB was an excellent player who had also attended your camp, Michael Carder.

They made it to the CIF play-offs that year and when my son was put in near the 4th quarter, he actually scored a touchdown as a quarterback, against the #1 seeded team. They lost and ended the season, but it was still fun going to the play-offs.

This past season, Doug’s senior year, his team was a free-lance team and no one thought they would go anywhere. At 5-5, they were picked as a wild card for the CIF
play-offs. As the 16th place team, they were pitted against Saddleback Valley Christian, the #1 team who were 10-0, never behind in any game and gave up only 89 points all season.

With Doug’s leadership and some outstanding plays from the rest of the team, MHS won the game and advanced to the quarter-finals! They continued to advance all the way to the semi-finals where they were defeated by Riverside Christian.

Armed with the expert training my son received at your camp, he went on to break a 15 year old passing record for his high school, threw only 4 interceptions in 13 games and was named “Most Outstanding Offensive Player” for the season.

Thank you so much for all the skills you teach these kids and all the confidence you help them develop. My son always knew he could be a quarterback and with your camp his beliefs were reinforced." --Shirlee Wilson, Mojave, CA

Texas High School Coaching Position Available!

QBR Coaches and Camper Families: We have learned of a coaching opportunity in Bellaire, Texas, in the Houston area. In light of today's economic climate we are happy to share it with you.

Bellaire is considered to be one of the state’s top public academic high schools and shows up on several national rankings in the Top 10.

This opportunity has come to us from QBR Coach, Doug Harker. He tells us that numerous Bellaire athletic teams are consistently in state championships and while football has been somewhat disappointing, a group of parents and coaches are determined to change that and the climate is right to do so.

In Texas you must be a certified teacher to coach. If you are interested please send an email to Coach Harker at: Doug.harker@comcast.net. Coach Harker will arrange to introduce you by phone to Coach Jeff Walker in addition to providing specific information about the job opening.

Please feel free to pass this along to any qualified coach who might be seeking employment or considering a move.

Thank you.

FITNESS, NUTRITION AND SELF-CARE TIPS

Fitness Tip
Replace worn exercise shoes. They typically lose about one-third of their ability to absorb shock after 500 miles of use and may wear unevenly. Loss of cushioning in the shock-absorbent midsole occurs long before the outer sole or upper shoe shows wear.

Nutrition Tip
Drink tea. It contains enough fluoride to help prevent tooth decay, and is also rich in substances called polyphenols, which act as antioxidants and thus may help protect against cancer.

Self-Care Tip
Halt a calf cramp. Try flexing your foot by pointing it upward. Lying down and grabbing the toes and ball of your foot and pulling them toward your knee may help. At the same time, massage the calf muscle gently to relax it fully. Walking may help, too, particularly if you put your full weight on your heels.
