QBR Camp Goal Post

Quote of the Month
"A person of character values honesty and integrity and pays whatever price is needed to be worthy of trust."

PART TWO OF TWO PARTS

"Why QBR Camp?” by Dave Van Matre, QBR Coach for 36 Years!

My son, Aaron, grew up attending QBR Camp with me first as a camp helper--blowing the whistle to signal our QB drill rotations, then as a successful Pop Warner and high school QB--and finally as one of our QBR Camp - Dave Van MatreQBR Camp instructors. Due in great part to the many things Aaron learned at QBR Camp, he was offered an appointment to the US Naval Academy to play QB. Although he chose not to accept that offer, he did go on to play quarterback in college and graduated with a BS degree from Humboldt State University.

An additional notable product from QBR Camp was Alex Smith, who before the summer of his freshman year, was 5’ 6" and weighed 126lbs. QBR Camp was EXACTLY what Alex needed to develop his then very limited skills. As a result of the repetitious fundamental throwing drills, Alex went from not being able to throw an accurate spiral to an accomplished passer by the end of camp. The transformation was truly magic.

Alex went on to have a storied academic (4.4 GPA!) and athletic career at Helix Charter HS in San Diego and then accepted a football scholarship to the University of Utah. Alex graduated from Utah in two years (!) with an economics degree.

In 2005, Alex was the #1 pick of the San Francisco 49ers. All of us at QBR Camp are very proud of what Alex was able to accomplish through his own hard work along with the solid foundation he received during his time at QBR Camp! There are hundreds of success stories that have been written over the years at QBR Camp. I tell everyone to take advantage of QBR as an opportunity of a lifetime.

Now, when people ask me why I still enjoy working QBR Camp after all these years, the answer is quite clear. If you want to be #1, work with and learn from the #1 “original” specialty camp in the field, QBR Camp is where you want to be. QBR Camp is simply the BEST!

QBR CAMP MAILBAG #2

QBR Camp Transmits Most Important Lesson

To the QBR Coaching Staff and Friends,

Just a quick note to let you know how our season is going so far—at least our summer 7 on 7 season. We won the inaugural Spain Park middle school 7 on 7 tournament!

My son, Jay, had an incredible day. He threw 14 touchdown passes in 4 games and threw for countless yards. His technique was much improved, especially his footwork. The most important part is that when he makes a poor throw he can now, thanks to QBR Camp, assess where his technique went wrong.

Matt Kyker (one of Jay's receivers who came to QBR) also had a super day with several catches and two touchdown receptions. Matt's routes are almost flawless especially compared to the other receivers at the tournament.

I again want to let you know that the most important lesson learned or maybe reinforced at QBR Camp is personal accountability. They must have piped it into the kids room because Jay has suddenly grasped the concept. It is one that I have harped on for years but once Coach Tad Niblett and Coach Farriba said it—it suddenly became true.

We can’t wait to get back there next year.

NUTRITION AND SELF-CARE TIPS

Food and Nutrition Tip
Rounding out the top 10 nutrition all-stars among fruits and vegetables, along with broccoli and kale, are cantaloupe, carrots, mangoes, pumpkin, red bell peppers, spinach, strawberries and sweet potato.

Self-Care Tip
If you have an ingrown toenail, soak the toe in water to soften the nail, then wedge a few strands of absorbent cotton (or unwaxed dental floss) under the corner of the nail to keep it from cutting the skin. Do this several times a day, if
necessary, until the nail grows out. To prevent painful ingrown toenails: when trimming the nails, always cut them straight across. And don’t trim toenails too close.
