Quote of the Month
"The spirit, the will to win, and the will to excel
are the things that endure. These qualities are so much more important
than the events that occur."
--Vince Lombardi, NFL Hall of
Fame Coach

Reflections Of Former QBR Camper
"I have used my copy of the old video we shot at OCC back
in '91 with my nephew. I’m very excited to hear that the
camp is still a huge success.
As a high school athlete, I can remember looking forward so much
to going to that camp for those few days in the summer in anticipation
of my experiences, camaraderie and all the new skills I was going
to learn. It was some of the best memories of mine growing up.
My brother Craig was an All-State high school receiver and went
to the camp two years in a row in Santa Barbara ('82-'83). I attended
'89-'90-'91 at Cal Lutheran. Best wishes for continued success.
I look forward to coaching at QBR one of
these summers!" --Ryan

QBR CAMP COACHES PRO-FILE
Mark Farriba: QBR Camp Georgia, Head Coach
My earliest football memories were of my
Dad taking me to see Georgia Tech play in the early to mid 60’s.
I remember standing at the gate where the players went back and
forth from the dressing room to the field.
I wanted to be one of them so bad.
In 1974, my University of Georgia freshman team
took the field at Georgia Tech to play in the annual Tech vs. UGA
Thanksgiving Day game; I had tears in my eyes realizing that my
dream had come true--although I was a Bulldog rather than a Yellow
Jacket!
Over the next few years, football offered me
many opportunities to be a part of some of the great Southeastern
Conference rivalries as well as the Sugar Bowl in New Orleans against
a great Pittsburgh team led by Tony Dorsett. I learned many lessons
playing football at Georgia; some were much more difficult than
others, but all were valuable. The most valuable lesson I learned
was that I wanted to coach the game and felt that as a coach there
were many opportunities to help young people not only play the
game well, but to also live their lives well.
My first head coaching opportunity came
at First Presbyterian Day School in Macon, GA in 1985. We won
the state championship in that first year and lost in the finals
2 more times in ’88
and ’89. I took a job as an assistant coach at my high school
alma mater, Stratford Academy, also in Macon in 1996. In 2002 I
was named the head coach and we won the state championship in 2004
against my old school, First Presbyterian, in a 35-34 overtime
thriller.
Currently, I am the head coach at Prince Avenue Christian School
in Athens, GA. We have just completed our third year of fielding
a varsity football team and are excited about the challenges facing
our young program.
In 1981, I was introduced to Dr. Will Hayes, Laird Hayes and Bob
Casciola and the QBR Camp. From Georgia to Florida, Arkansas and
back to Georgia, my association with QBR Camp has been one I look
forward to each summer. There have been thousands of players and
many coaches that have made this one of the best football camp
opportunities available for young men.
I had the opportunity to coach at The University of Kentucky because
of a contact I made while working at QBR Camp.
No matter what a young man’s goals
are, whether playing on his high school team or beyond, it all
starts with a dream. From skill development, to leadership principles
and most importantly, the value of forming and repeating good
habits, QBR Camp will help young men achieve their dreams. --Mark
Farriba

NUTRITION AND FITNESS
TIPS
Nutrition Tip
Choose bright and dark-colored fruits and
vegetables. Color is
generally a sign of extra nutrients. For instance, buy red grapes
instead of green, romaine or watercress rather than iceberg lettuce,
red cabbage instead of green, and dark orange carrots over pale
ones.
Fitness Tip
Self-care for a painful arch. Roll your foot over
a can of frozen juice concentrate. Both the cold and the massage
will help relieve the pain. If the can is too cold, wrap it in
a washcloth. You can also use a can of tennis balls or any other
can to massage the arch, but you won’ Mt get the icing effect.
