QBR CAMP NEWS
Dr. Laird Hayes, Quarterback and Receiver Camp President, has just announced our newest location for 2010! Riverside Military Academy in Gainesville, Georgia, has just signed on to host QBR's Southeast camp.
The 206-acre Riverside Military campus is located in the foothills of northeast Georgia, just an hour north of Atlanta. Riverside is a premier, all-boys, college prep boarding school for grades 7 through 12. Riverside has had a 100% college acceptance rate for the past nine consecutive years.
New and returning campers will receive fundamentals-based, football training at this state of the art and newly renovated campus. Our non-contact style of training has made QBR Camp the number one specialty camp in the United States.
QBR COACH PRO-FILE
Ray Moore has been coaching at QBR Camp since 1989. He is currently the Receivers Coordinator for both California Camps. Ray is beginning his 37th year as a teacher/coach and his 26th year as a high school Athletic Director.
A 1968 graduate of Cabrillo High School in Lompoc, California, Ray was an All-League performer in football and baseball. Following high school, he attended Cal State Fullerton where he played baseball and football and was named as an all-state catcher.
Ray began his teaching and coaching career in 1973 as a graduate assistant at Claremont Men’s College (now Claremont-McKenna College). He has coached in Northern California (Armijo High School), in Idaho (Nampa High School), and in Southern California (Loara High School, Diamond Bar High School, and Vista Murrieta High School). During his over 30 year coaching career, Ray has been fortunate to have been with teams that have won over 20 league titles and earned 25 playoff berths, winning 5 CIF Championships.
Currently, the Athletic Director at Vista Murrieta High School, Ray oversees twenty-one sports and forty-nine teams. Since Vista Murrieta opened in 2003, Bronco teams have earned 23 varsity league titles, 7 team academic championships, one CIF title and has been named as a CIF School of Character two times. During the 2008-2009 school year, MAXPREPS named Vista Murrieta High School as the “Most Spirited High School in the Nation.”
Coach Moore has been named as the CIF Southern Section AD-of-the-Year and California State AD-of-the-Year. He is the former President of the National Council of Secondary School Athletic Directors and the Foothill-Citrus Athletic Directors Association. He has spoken nine times at national and state conferences. Currently, he chairs the CIF Southern Section Athletic Directors Advisory Committee and is a member of the CIF Southern Section Executive Council. He is also a board member for the California State Athletic Directors Association (CSADA). Ray earned the title of Certified Master Athletic Administrator (CMAA) in 2001 and is one of less than 200 athletic directors in the United States with this certification.
“Each summer, I look forward to being a part of the QBR Camps. I get to work with great young players from many different states and Canada. It is an honor for me to do my best to help them develop as student-athletes and as young men. QBR Camp is an opportunity to work with a super coaching staff and to teach football fundamentals so that kids get better and help lead their teams to championship seasons.”
“QBR Camp has 45 years of proven success and it the finest camp of its kind. I am already fired up for our 2010 camps!”
QBR CAMPER FAMILY QUOTES
Dear Dr. Hayes,
I thought you would want to hear about Kyle Morris who attended QBR Camp for six years and became our varsity starter his sophomore year. Kyle recently received a football scholarship to Idaho State University! The following was written about Kyle by a well-respected high school football evaluator:
"I loved watching Morris play. He’s an excellent QB and passer. He has good presence in the pocket and a good throwing motion. He can also scramble when he has to. Two of his best games of the year were a couple of tough last minute losses, one to Rancho Cotate, 35-32, and a playoff game to Ygnacio Valley, 34-33. Morris had big numbers in both games."
Thank you and Quarterback and Receiver Camp for all that you've done not only for Kyle but for all the Ukiah QB's and receivers who've attended QBR over the years.
Sincerely,
Jason Silva, Head Coach
Ukiah High School, Calif.
TIPS FROM THE BERKELEY WELLNESS LETTER
Self-Care: To halt a calf cramp, try flexing your foot by pointing it upward. Lying down and grabbing the toes and ball of your foot and pulling them toward your knee may help. At the same time, massage the calf muscle gently to relax it fully. Walking may help, too, particularly if you put your full weight on your heels.
Fitness: Warm up before stretching. Stretching cold muscles can injure them. Warming up—by jogging in place for 5 to 10 minutes, for instance—prepares you for exercise by gradually increasing your heart rate and blood flow, raising the temperature of muscles, and improving muscle function. It may also decrease the chance of a sports injury.
Food and Nutrition: Use a blender. Food processors have overshadowed blenders in recent years, but there are some things blenders do better. They purée and liquefy foods to a smoothness few processors can match. So dust off your blender to make healthy shakes and drinks. You can combine nearly any fruits with skim milk and/or nonfat yogurt to make smoothies. Try frozen ingredients, such as bananas or orange juice. You can also make vegetable “cocktails,” flavorful dips, quick sauces, velvety soups, and low-fat sandwich spreads.
